Sandra M's Story

Year Diagnosed: 2006
Type of Cancer: ovarian

Sandra M.

We all hope that our inital treatment will result in remission. I was no different and was in remission for 9 months before my CA125 starting doubling. I've been on continual chemotherapy since March 2008. I had a choice of how to live my new normal life with ovarian cancer. I choose to let go and let God and to live life as much as possible. It's an up and down journey for sure. With complimentary therapies like Healing Touch, a new-found faith in the higher power that looks out for me, as well as family and friends, I am happy and blessed to have each day to look forward to as long as I can. Advocating for myself and other women is also a big part of this journey. I am on the NYS DOH Chronic Diseases Ovarian Cancer Advisory Board, a board member and active member of Caring Together Suppport, and SHARE Hotline support. I receive more than I give from being involved in these efforts. I recommend it. I've had rough times, but am currently trying to work part time so I can stay involved in my hospital work and to keep my health insurance coverage through my employer as long as possible. My doctor doesn't recommend it, but it's what's right for me right now. Live your life—it's the only way to keep the HOPE alive.
