Linda H's Story

Year Diagnosed: 1996
Type of Cancer: ovarian

I have survived Stage IIC epitheliel ovarian cancer with no recurrence for 13 years.

I began experiencing the usual ovarian CA symptoms in late 1995; however, my symptoms were accompanied by severe pain in my left ovary. Tests conducted in March 1996 indicated that I had a grapefruit sized cyst in my left ovary—and encapsulated within the cyst was a malignant tumor. I underwent surgery to remove both ovaries in April 1996, followed by 6 rounds of chemotherapy until August 1996. I was told after my last treatment that, according to statistics, I had a 70% chance of recurrence. The next 1.5 years were undescribably painful emotionally, as I struggled to overcome overwhelming depression and fear. I returned to my Christian faith and my spiritual life has deepened and my life has been so joyful and full because God had other plans for me. I saw my youngest child not only graduate from high school, but college and I was present at her wedding five years ago this coming November.

We never know when our lives will be turned upside down and all our beliefs and courage are in short supply. But please believe that God will never forsake you—he walks beside you wherever you go and whatever you endure.

I pray for each of you that you will find within yourself and with your loved ones and friends the strength and the faith to go on—and lean ever so firmly on God. I love you and I pray for you.

I love you.
