Jenny S's Story
Year Diagnosed: 2008
Type of Cancer: ovarian
In August of 08 I was diagnosed with Stage IIIC ovarian cancer. I tell people
who ask how this came about, "I went in for my annual pap smear and came out
with cancer." Like most women, my symptoms remained silent.
Because ovarian cancer in most cases takes us by surprise, none of us are prepared for those words... you have cancer... . You soon find you can and will survive the surgery, the chemo and the side effects. The hardest part of this journey is coming to grips with your own mortality. I used to think my cancer was like a curse, but now in many ways I realize its a blessing in an ugly disguise. Cancer can force you to look within yourself to get thru the dark nights and what you find is the true beauty within you. It is in the truest sense a connection with your soul.
To all of us who live with this disease, we must remember we are the chosen ones, changing the future for our daughters, sisters, neices and grand daughters. Don't hesitate. Speak up and tell your story. You just might save a life.
