GCAM Resources
July 2011
Dear Friends and Colleagues:
As we prepare for September, Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month, the Foundation for Women’s Cancer (formerly the Gynecologic Cancer Foundation) also celebrates its 20th anniversary and looks forward to the next National Race to End Women’s Cancer in Washington, DC on November 6, 2011.
Since the Foundation for Women’s Cancer first declared September as Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month in 1999, there have been thousands of events at both the national and local levels to support women diagnosed with a gynecologic cancer, and to honor the memory of those who have passed away.
The Foundation is pleased to note that September also is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
Since 1991, the Foundation has steadily grown its programs to serve our mission to support research and training, and create awareness about the prevention, early detection and optimal treatment of gynecologic cancers. This has been accomplished through a robust research portfolio aimed at encouraging young investigators to pursue a career as physician-scientist. For more information, please review the Foundation for Women’s Cancer 20th Anniversary Research Portfolio.
We also have supported women living with a gynecologic cancer through our survivors courses that provide an opportunity for women, their family and friends to attend free courses taught by experts in the optimal treatment of gynecologic cancers. To date the Foundation has offered 31 courses with seven more courses scheduled for the fall. The schedule and registration are available by visiting the Educational Courses and Events section of the Foundation for Women’s Cancer Web site.
Please join the Foundation in encouraging women to LEARN, LISTEN, ACT by offering them the tools to do so.
- A member activity form to track your planned events and inform the Foundation.
- A results form to let the Foundation know about the success of your GCAM activities.
- A publicity kit survey form, to help the Foundation learn how to refine the kit for future GCAM activities.
- A promotional/educational materials order form, in case you wish to have additional materials on hand for GCAM or other activities.
Should you need additional resources or information, please feel free to contact the Foundation Headquarters at 312.578.1439. The kit and forms may also be viewed and printed from the homepage of our Web site, foundationforwomenscancer.org.
We hope that this toolkit will be helpful to you as you promote your own activities during September.
Again, thank you for your continued support and dedication to improving women’s health.
Sincerely,
| David M. Gershenson, MD Chairman, Foundation for Women’s Cancer |
Carol L. Brown, MD Communications Chair, Foundation for Women’s Cancer |
