Media Dissemination of Scientific Information
Ketchum Public Relations firm is employed by GCF to cover the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists' Annual Clinic Meeting to facilitate the dissemination by television, radio and print media of important new scientific findings reported at the meeting. They also arrange on-site interviews of the authors by media specialists who are invited to the meeting. This year's media campaign saw the largest turnout of media ever for an SGO annual meeting. Reporters from the New York Times and ABC Network News attended select parts of the meeting. Also signing in were reporters from Contemporary OB/GYN, Gynecologic Oncology News/IMNG, Medical Post, Oncology Times, Oncology New International, Oncologist, and Reuters News Service. This is in addition to the front-page story in OB/GYN News that included an interview with Wendy Brewster, MD. GCF supporters received a GCAM publicity kit with ideas on how to promote the month in their community. The kit includes instructions for generating awareness through community and hospital events and media outreach, as well as sample media materials that can be modified to incorporate local information. A GCAM poster was developed and distributed to SGO/GCF members and supporters. The poster was designed for members and supporters to hang in their local community, waiting room and other places of their choice. Over 10,000 posters were disseminated throughout the United States. An aggressive media campaign was conducted and efforts resulted in nine major magazine, 53 newspaper, 13 online and 52 television placements including Good Morning America and Today Show.
