Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Shared with 15 Million People

Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month (GCAM) 2002 media campaign relied heavily on the amazing grassroots efforts from our many supporters. The campaign consisted of a press kit, magazine outreach, print (newspaper dailies) outreach, as well as a matte release and a book tour featuring gynecologic cancer survivor and actress Fran Drescher. The results were astounding and over 15 million people received the GCAM message. Some highlights:

Magazine and Print Outreach

Ninety-seven placements and 2,915,323 impressions are the final tallies for the print media outreach. The Charleston Post & Courier, San Francisco Examiner and Flint Journal are just a few of the larger markets that saw GCAM coverage. Ten online placements included the Abilene Reporter News and United Press International. At press time, there was also interest from Family Circle and Marie Claire, though no placements have been confirmed.

Additionally, a matte release was sent to 10,000 newspapers across the country in August about the common myths associated with gynecologic cancer. To date the release has generated more than 336 newspaper placements in 24 different states with a readership of over 15 million.

Thanks to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists who dedicated a half-page in their newsletter to GCAM, featuring information about educational brochures and other resources that doctors can provide their patients.
