Chairman's Letter
It is hard to believe that the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists Annual Meeting on Women's Cancers is here! We are excited about all of the activities that will be taking place this year. There are many studies being highlighted as part of our meeting media campaign, and our Hometown Radio program will once again provide members a way to get the message out to their hometown regions. Additionally, we will be unveiling the new version of the Women's Cancer Network Web site www.wcn.org, thanks to a generous grant from Bristol-Myers Squibb Oncology.
New this year is an outreach course geared toward African-American women. Part of the National HPV & Cervical Cancer Campaign, the course will offer vital information about women's health and cancer to this group. Back again is the walk/run event aptly titled, the "Jazz Jog." We are confident that it will turn out to be another successful meeting.
Another year has gone by and now that 2002 has come to a close, we at GCF are taking a moment to reflect on last year's successes. I personally am very proud of our progress in making 2002 another purposeful and exciting year of great strides in our mission to generate awareness among the general public, support innovative research and training and continue our advocacy efforts.
I am especially proud of the progress of our Allied Support Group and the wonderful partnerships we have developed as a result of this alliance.
We are also pleased to announce the completion of our first-ever Spanish-language materials. The translation of our Maintain Your Gynecologic Health brochure and the Ovarian Cancer National Resource List into Spanish is just the beginning of our efforts to reach out to a community that has much to gain from gynecologic cancer awareness and education.
It has been truly a pleasure, honor and privilege to serve as your Chairman over the past six years. Throughout my career I have never seen such a labor of love and know that without the unbelievable time and efforts of our leadership, volunteers, and specifically Karen and Tina, our dedicated staff and friends, this foundation could not succeed.
I am indebted to all of you for allowing me this opportunity and look forward to my continued involvement and dedication to this wonderful organization.
As I have been known to say over the years "And the beat goes on…."
Sincerely,
Wesley C. Fowler, Jr., M.D.
