GCF Remembers Long-time Friend, Advocate and 2002 GCF Public Service Award Winner Cindy Melancon

Cindy was president and founder of CONVERSATIONS! The International Ovarian Cancer Connection, a not-for-profit organization with the mission to provide support for those fighting ovarian cancer with circulation to over 4,000 women, advocacy groups and health care providers in the U.S., Canada and over 40 foreign countries. She was also a founding board member and vice president of Ovarian Cancer National Alliance and "Foremother" and founding member of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition and a valued member of GCF's Allied Support Group. In 2002 Cindy was awarded the GCF Public Service Award and received several other awards such as the 2000 Cancer Volunteer of the Year award by Coping magazine, the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship and the Catherine Logan Service to Survivorship in 2003.

"Cindy was an inspiration to all of us," said GCF Chairman Karl Podratz, MD, PhD. "She will be greatly missed by all as her accomplishments and friendship touched so many lives and will live on in the work of all involved in the fight against ovarian cancer."
