GCF Joins Forces to Educate Women about Cervical Cancer

Partners of GCF's National Cervical Cancer Public Education Campaign came together this September in Washington, D.C. to discuss plans for the Campaign and ways they can work together to inform women about cervical cancer, screening and treatment.

The meeting brought together 15 Campaign partners from across the country and gave GCF, as the lead partner, an opportunity to articulate its vision for the Campaign, describe plans for upcoming activities and meet partners one-on-one.

Ideas exchanged at the meeting will help the Campaign strengthen its efforts for January, Cervical Cancer Screening Month, as well as develop new strategies and plans for Campaign outreach efforts.

At the meeting, partners also welcomed and thanked a new sponsor, Cytyc Corporation, who joined Digene Corporation as a corporate supporter of the Campaign.

In other Campaign news, with the help of Carolyn Runowicz, MD, and the Campaign Advisory Committee, GCF has been updating Campaign materials to reflect new scientific and medical information regarding cervical cancer. Drs. Wendy Brewster, Mark Einstein and Janet Radar serve as Committee members.

The Campaign will also share current cervical cancer information directly with the media as GCF physicians will meet with top health editors of major women's publications to discuss the latest cervical cancer news on behalf of the Campaign. It is hoped that this outreach will provide the media with possible story ideas regarding cervical cancer screening and detection for January 2004 magazine editions, to mark Cervical Cancer Screening Month. GCF is grateful to the Digene Corporation and the Cytyc Corporation which have provided unrestricted educational grants in support of this Campaign.
