GCAM Raises Awareness About Maintaining Gynecologic Health to Millions

In support of the fifth annual Gynecologic Cancer Awareness Month (GCAM) this year, GCF reached millions of people with information about gynecologic cancers through its updated publicity kits, a video news release, press releases, media interviews, an advertisement featuring Miss USA and a new annual report about gynecologic cancers. An impressive amount - over 100,000 of educational brochures, The New York Times supplements and Miss USA tent signs were distributed during the month.

In addition to GCAM's media outreach, this year GCF took its messages about prevention and detection to women through a new public service announcement featuring Miss USA, Susie Castillo, and her mom. The advertisement encourages women to take charge of their health by learning more about gynecologic cancers through information on the Women's Cancer Network Web site - www.wcn.org.

The advertisement appeared in the October issue of Woman's Day magazine, which has a circulation of more than 4.2 million readers. Better Homes and Gardens and Cosmopolitan have also expressed initial interest in placing the advertisement in an upcoming issue of their magazine. Additionally, in August, GCF mailed tent signs of the advertisement to their entire mailing list so that the signs could be displayed in local communities, waiting rooms and other highly visible areas. The Miss Universe Organization is also doing their part in helping to spread the word about this important message.

GCF greatly acknowledges the Miss Universe Organization, Bill Freer and Mary Martin of Digital Bistro, Inc. and Fadil Berisha Photography for their support in developing this advertisement and Bristol-Myers Squibb Oncology for the unrestricted grant which made this project a reality.

On the following pages you can read more about GCAM's media outreach, events and video news release.

GCF is grateful to Bristol-Myers Squibb Oncology for providing an unrestricted educational grant which made the placement of this advertisement in Women's Day magazine possible.
