Volume 2, Number 3
The nation's two million readers of the February 9, 1998 edition of USA
Today joined the attendees of the 29th Annual Meeting of the Society
of Gynecologic Oncologists in discovering the wide range of new medical
findings. Heading the newspaper's "Life" section was a report
on a study carried out by Dr. Stephen Rubin at the University of Pennsylvania
Cancer Center regarding the first long-term follow-up of ovarian cancer
patients having a negative second-look laparotomy, after treatment with
platinum-based chemotherapy. Also cited in this lead article were the results
of Dr. Alexander Sedlis' presentation on a seven year prospective and randomized
study designed to evaluate the risks and benefits of radiotherapy aimed
at reducing recurrence of cervical cancer and mortality.
