Winning With the Media

How can we provide the public with Gynecologic Cancer Foundation information? You can help us by participating in interview opportunities. Here are a few simple guidelines:

Before the Interview

  • Ask the reporter for a list of questions you will be asked.
  • Prepare a few points you want to get across.
  • Practice! Have friends question you so you know your answers.

During the Interview

  • Relax. Be yourself. Be friendly.
  • Say what’s important first and amplify it later with supportive details.
  • Limit your answers to 20-30 seconds.
  • Mention GCF’s "Information Hotline" (1.800.444.4441) and Internet address www.sgo.org).
  • If you don’t know something, say so. Offer to call the reporter back later with a follow-up answer.
  • Avoid jargon. Remember, your audience is usually the general public, unfamiliar with medical terminology.

Following the Interview

After the interview, follow-up with a "thank you" note or call.

If you wish to conduct a practice run, feel free to contact GCF’s public relations counsel, The Krupa Companies, at 703.525.4700, or send questions via e-mail to: KrupaCo1@aol.com.
