Foundation to Conduct Fall Donor Drive
Several years ago, you were asked to help start what was then just an idea. Many of you generously responded and that concept is now a reality -- The Gynecologic Cancer Foundation (GCF).
Your money has gone a long way. Several grants supporting research in ovarian cancer biology and novel therapies have been funded by the GCF. In cooperation with the National Cancer Institute, a position was created to provide state-of-the-art, scientific training to gynecologic oncologists.
In addition, the GCF has proactively supported several patient advocacy projects designed to help educate women about gynecologic cancers and their choices when it comes to who should take care of them. These include patient education pamphlets, a toll-free referral number, a Womens Cancer Network site on the Internet, a public service announcement, community forums, and more.
The GCF needs your support to continue its mission and expand its efforts. All GCF/SGO members are being asked to put GCF on the list of charities that each of us contributes to annually. Class representatives will be in contact to thank you for your support and answer any questions you may have.
No specific contribution amount will be requested. Any support will be appreciated to help GCF continue its mission. If you know of people, businesses or organizations that would be interested in supporting the GCF, let us know. These grass-roots contacts can go a long way in generating support for our foundation.
Please read the information sent to you and ask your class representative questions. Then, return your pledge card immediately. Do you believe funding research for novel treatments in gynecologic cancers is important? Do you believe in providing leading scientific training opportunities to the next generation of gynecologic oncologists? Do you believe in educating women about gynecologic cancers and their choices in health care providers? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, you should feel compelled to PUT GCF ON YOUR LIST.
