Annual Meeting Reaches 21 Million People
How many people could have watched, read or heard about the papers released at the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists annual meeting? Well, an effective media campaign -- funded by the GCF -- has reached out to 21 million people around the world.
Designed to increase public awareness of the important work our membership is doing in gynecologic cancer, the media campaign included all forms of media. Heres the specific breakdown: 14.6 million television viewers; 6.2 million newspaper readers; and approximately 1 million radio listeners were exposed to the SGOs papers. Congratulations to our entire membership for generating that level of interest!
Does That Include Kenya?
Wendy Brewster, MD, a Fellow at the University of California-Irvine, was surprised to hear that her presentation on estrogen replacement therapy at the SGO annual meeting was published in the Sunday Nation, one of Kenyas largest newspapers, on April 27.
According to Dr. Brewster, "While I was glad to hear the message of my work and other SGO doctors had reached more than 20 million people, I had no idea that the number would include my friends and family in Kenya, some 9,000 miles away."
