Innovative Frog Jog Raises $10,000 for GCF
The Frog Jog Running Club of San Francisco, California hosted its
First Annual 5K/10K Fun Run to benefit the Gynecologic Cancer
Foundation (GCF) on Sunday, August 11, 1996, in Golden Gate Park.
Over 800 runners and walkers, along with 100 volunteers and over
40 corporate sponsors and exhibitors participated in this first year
event to raise $10,000 for the GCF.
On behalf of the GCF, member Lisa Sandles, MD spoke at the run
about the serious impact gynecologic cancers have on women and their
families. Dr. Sandles joined other representatives from the Women's
Cancer Center and the Women & Cancer Walk at the Frog Jog Expo to
personally speak to attendees about gynecologic cancer.
The Frog Jog was the brainchild of event organizer Kim Harbaugh,
whose mother died of gynecologic cancer. Named after her mother's
love of frogs, the Frog Jog will now be an annual event in San
Francisco.
The 1997 Frog Jog is scheduled for Sunday, August 10.
