Treatment for Poor Prognosis Disease

Poor prognosis disease is usually metastatic disease that has spread to multiple areas. For instance, it may have spread to the brain, liver, intestines, and other areas. It’s also marked by high levels of beta-hCG. Plus there may be or other complex factors that affect the prognosis.

Treatment usually consists of multiagent chemotherapy. Surgery may also be used to remove cancer that’s spread and is resistant to chemotherapy. This would be the case for women who have a rising HCG level during therapy. Treatment should be given by an oncologist who is expert in this disease. That’s because the combination chemotherapy can be very toxic. Also, if additional therapy, such as surgery or radiation, is needed, it has to be determined on a case by case basis.
