Treatment for Hydatidiform Mole

There are two ways to treat hydatidiform moles. The mole can be removed by suction evacuation followed by dilation and curettage (D&C). Or the tumor and entire uterus can be removed with a hysterectomy. This option might be considered if you don’t want to have any more children. This disease is considered benign. So chemotherapy is not needed unless the HCG levels begin to rise after the initial treatment.

After the initial treatment, your HCG level will be followed carefully. If the level does not go to normal, more tests will be done to determine the stage of the disease. Further treatment will then depend on the level of the beta HCG and the stage of disease.
