What is an Adnexal Mass?

Adnexal mass refers to a mass that has grown in the uterine adnexa. The uterine adnexa are the appendages of the uterus. It includes the tubes and ovaries. Adnexal masses can have a variety of causes, including:

  • benign (non-cancerous) ovarian tumors

  • irregularities in the Fallopian tubes

There could be many other causes as well. Some non-gynecologic conditions may seem like an adnexal mass. These include irregularities in the colon and bladder.
